Storming
Having gone through the Forming stage, the group now discovers their differences. Those who want to be in a leading position are competing fiercely with each other over the title or the consensus. Ideas frequently clash. Logical and emotional discussions take place where everyone is pushing for their own ideas.
This is the stage where cliques are formed and alliances among individuals are created. Subgroups could be competing for dominance. This is when differences, historical issues and dislikes are exposed and if uncontrolled can lead to heated emotional conversations.
As the team progresses through this turbulent stage, new understanding of other people in the group is formed. People come to realise others’ strength and weaknesses. This is when people must learn to get over their differences for the common cause and accept alternative solutions.
