Shaper

A Shaper has a high motivation to finish the task. A shaper is totally committed to the task and wants to shape others into achieving the aims of the team. A Shaper is full of nervous energy. He is often impatient, argumentative, and easily frustrated. A shaper will challenge others to unite ideas and practical considerations into a feasible project. According to Belbin, two or three shapers in a group can lead to conflict, aggravation, and in-fighting.

  • Positive qualities: unites ideas, shapes the team’s collective mind, highly motivated to reach the goal, has drive, not shy to challenge silly ideas, competitive, achievement-driven
  • Negative qualities: will challenge and disagree easily, may display aggression in the pursuit of goal achievement, multiple shapers in a team can be counter-productive
