Individual
One area that sometimes seems to get forgotten in teams is the individual needs of team members. Everyone has their own priorities and missions in life and anything they do on their own or as part of a team must be aligned with their internal vision. If this internal need is neglected, the individual may start to feel demotivated and isolated. The inefficiency caused by such negligence risks damaging both individual and team efficiency. Consider the following questions regarding individuals in your team:
- Are the individual needs considered and responded to?
- How team members are supported on their plans, challenges, skills, and their psychological state?
- How are team members recognised and praised for their efforts?
- Are individual responsibilities and objectives correctly formulated and communicated to the team members?
- Are team members’ needs granted in terms of growth (by giving extra responsibility and training), satisfaction, significance, variety, contribution, and certainty?
Each of these areas has its own role in helping the team to become efficient and get closer to its goal. A team leader must pay attention to all three areas continuously to make sure that the team member’s needs are satisfied.
