Certainty

People are interested to have certainty in life usually for necessities such as food, shelter, material resources, jobs and so on. People will start to get frustrated when their basic needs don’t seem to be certain.

Certainty is not only applicable to basic physical needs. It is also applicable to relationships. For example, people are interested to have certainty over their relations with others, so they can count on them when it is necessary. This also explains why we tend to like or to be depended on and go an extra mile to show that we are here to stay. This explains why it becomes so frustrating when a long relationship with your spouse, colleague or friend comes under threat since that certainty goes under question and what was given may suddenly disappear.

When people cannot control their circumstances, they seek certainty through other channels, such as religion. Many studies show that people exhibit more religious tendency when confronted with natural disaster that threats the certainty in their lives.
