How to build great relationships
- Spend enough time to show that you are interested to establish a relationship and are not looking for short term solutions
- You don’t have to be best friends to have a good relationship.
- Appreciate people’s technical skills, talent and gift. Use the power of praise as most people are praise-deprived
- Spend time with people in social environments. Casual conversations over food can do wonders to build relationships. Take advantage of our evolutionary need for social interaction
- Support people in tough times when things are not going well and they need help
- Understand other’s point of view, character and upbringing which may define many of their behaviours.
- Set an example by being optimistic, positive, energetic and enthusiastic. Take yourself lightly, but take your business seriously.
- Make an effort to actively listen to what they have to say, without judging, and visualise yourself in their position. You don’t have to provide solutions every time, sometimes people just want you to hear them out. Do what they want and no more.
