Dates can be useful in a spreadsheet.  Excel recognises the date as a number (starting from 1 January 1900).  For this reason, dates can be used to do calculations e.g. what is the date 30 days from today.  This can be useful when you are tracking deadline date or when you need to find when something is due.

NOTE:  If Excel recognises data as a date, it appears at the right of the cell. If you date is on the left, it does not recognise it a

s a date.
