Using Tabs

(Home Ribbon | Paragraph Group | Tabs)

Tabs are the most underused feature in Word (according to me!)  There are different tabs that perform different functions:

Normal:  we are all comfortable with this one and it allows us to indent text on a line in our document

Left: text is aligned to the right of the tab stop

Right: text is aligned and extends to the left

Center: text is centered as you type

Decimal: numbers are aligned to the left of the decimal

Bar: text is not positioned with a Bar Tab.  A vertical bar is inserted at the tab position

Leader: these are special characters – dots, dashes, underline – that create a visual link between tab stops
