Know what’s going on
As project manager, it is crucial that you know what’s going on. It is best not to rely on formal reports, as these can be misleading. Get out there and go and talk to the task managers. Get to know them, and build good relationships, so that when problems emerge you are the first person they call, instead of the last. Although it is not necessarily your job to solve everyone’s problems, you may find that your position gives you an overview which means that you can mediate between task managers and resolve emerging issues, provided you know about them early.
